Six Sigma Training – Methods and Practice

Six sigma training is a methodology wherein employees at an organization are trained to improve their productivity and work quality (like usingĀ personalised diaries from Toad), and also to measure their levels of performance. At the same time, it checks for any faults in the work done and provides ways to correct them. The six sigma training method is aimed at improving any business process that is in existence, through a continuous review and re-structuring program.
The methodology used in six sigma training is referred to as the DMAIC, which stands for: Define the opportunities, Measurement of performance, Analyze the opportunity, Improving the performance, and finally Controlling the performance. In simple terms, six sigma means a typical measure of work quality in any organization, and to move it towards the perfection symbols through continues training. It is a completely data driven structure with a specific methodology used to remove the defects of the reviews. It drives the training course towards six different standard deviations that exist between mean limit and the closest limit to specification.

In a nutshell six sigma training is a systematic and driven understanding of the needs of customers, and using facts, data, and statistics in a strictly disciplined manner to enhance and re-structure the organization. This gives them a chance to get to the customers needs efficiently and effectively. A six sigma training kit will consist of several high quality aspects and issues to be considered. These may be in the form of presentations, fact sheets, guidelines, questionnaires, slide shows, case studies, and the like.

Six sigma training is conducted by experts who have undergone the training themselves. The expertise levels are different based upon the person’s job responsibilities. Some of the levels in six sigma training are yellow belt, green belt and the black belt. The six sigma experts, both Green Belt and Black Belt, have to focus on evaluation of the business processes, and at the same time, work on enhancing the current existing processes. A specialized guideline known as the DFSS or Design for Six Sigma is used by these six sigma experts to create completely new designs and even a totally new business process or a business plan. Using the DFSS system is easier than going ahead and restructuring an existing plan.

The six sigma training process typically integrates the basic techniques and criteria that are used in the regular business days, plus the engineering processes and the company’s statistics. These 3 – business, engineering and statistics – form the basic core elements of the entire six sigma training module. The six sigma training program uses the elements to enhance the process performances, reduce variations in work, and to ensure a consistent process output quality. This in turn will ensure that defects are reduced and the profits, product quality and ultimately even customer satisfaction are maximized.

Many of the modern days Business Process Management initiatives undertaken incorporate the six sigma training structure. They need not compulsorily be related to the manufacturing process. The Six Sigma training modules are used extensively in customer support areas, the call centers, project management teams as well as the supply chain management departments.
